The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Received the Representatives of the World Bank and the Center for Education Projects PIU

On November 10, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the RA, Araksia Svajyan, received the World Bank delegation. The mission consisted of Senior Economist, Task Team Leader Ms. Renata Freitas Lemos, Education Specialist Anna Berdzenadze, World Bank Consultants Anna Malkhasyan and Sona Koshetsyan, and others. Armine Khachatryan, Project Manager/Deputy Director of the Center for Education Projects PIU was also present at the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, the Deputy Minister thanked the representatives of the World Bank for the long-term, continuous and effective cooperation. According to Araksia Svajyan, the success in the educational system is the result of joint efforts and work.
"We have already implemented a lot of work with the World Bank, I am glad for our continuous cooperation," the Deputy Minister noted.
During the meeting, Armine Khachatryan, the Progject Manager/ Deputy Director of the Center for Education Projects PIU, presented a comprehensive picture of the PIU activities in the context of "Education Improvement Project Additional financing" loan program and referred to the already implemented, current and planned activities within the framework of the program. She noted that as a result of cooperation with the World Bank in the field of education, important and effective programs have been implemented and are being implemented, from general to Higher Education.. Even today, " Education Improvement Project Additional financing " loan program implemented with the co-financing of the World Bank, is aimed at further improving the quality of education, creating an education system which would meet international standards. Emphasizing the importance of collaborative work, she thanked the representatives of the World Bank for consistent support in the field of education.
Presenting the current problems in the field of education s of the Republic of Armenia, the Deputy Minister also touched upon issues related to ensuring the educational rights of about 30 thousand pupils and students who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. She noted that the involvement of those children in educational institutions is of hgh priority for both the Government and the Ministry. World Bank Senior Economist Renata Freitas Lemos stated that during her visits to the regions of the Republic of Armenia, she had meetings with forcibly displaced students and pupils from Nagorno Karabakh in pre-schools and schools, and this issue is in the center of the World Bank delegation special attention.
Renata Freitas Lemos thanked the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia and the Center for Education Projects for the reception, stressing that in these tough and strenuous times Armenia proceeds with educational reforms.
“The development of human capital is one of the World Bank priorities. We are confident that the reforms in education will directly contribute to the overall development of the country," said Renata Freitas Lemos, confirming the World Bank readiness to provide continuous support and assistance.
She highly appreciated the efforts of the Center for Education Projects PIU in the context of reforms in the field of education emphasizing the impressiveness of the results.
Further prospects of bilateral cooperation and other issues of interest were also discussed during the meeting.
