The Environmental and Social Management Plan of the “Education Improvement - Additional Financing” Project was Presented for Public Discussion.

On April 21, a public consultation in remote format was held at the Center for Education Projects PIU the purpose of which was to present the environmental and social management plan developed for the renovation works envisaged within the framework of the “Education Improvement - Additional Financing” project. Representatives of the "Center for Education Projects" PIU and the MESCS of RA, directors of educational institutions of the RA Aragatsotn, Ararat and Lori regions were present at the remote consultation. Emphasizing the importance of the public consultation and wishing the participants an effective discussion, Armine Khachatryan, the Manager of the CEP PIU programs, presented the goals and activities of the “Education Improvement - Additional Financing” project. The Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the Education Improvement credit project was represented by Anna Karapetyan, an environmental advisor to the Center for Education Projects PIU. Emphasizing the purpose of the public consultation in the context of the activities envisaged within the framework of the "Education Improvement Project”, the environmentalist presented the possible environmental and social impacts arising during the renovation and construction of buildings, the main measures for their prevention, mitigation and monitoring. Emphasizing the importance of environmental and social studies during project preparation and project development, she added that these potential impacts are temporary in nature and mainly predicted to occur during the construction phase. It is generally expected that the potential adverse environmental impacts associated with construction and renovation works will be small, short-term and localized. It should be added that the ESMP has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the RA legislation and the operational policy requirements of the “Education Improvement - Additional Financing” project . "Compliance with the requirements of the environmental and social management plan during construction works will prevent or minimize potential adverse impacts," said the environmentalist. The participants of the meeting asked a number of questions about the measures envisaged by the environmental and social management plan. Exhaustive answers were given to the raised questions. It should be noted that the CEP PIU will also be responsible for the monitoring of the implementation of the activities envisaged by the ESMP.
